So my little one is sick and we went to a doctor and got a "precription" for antibiotics - no problem.
Went to Walmart and got the antibiotic that is supposed to be a liquid/suspension form since she is a baby. What I got is a big bottle of powder.
I'm nervous to mix it myself especially since my Spanish is so/so.
Question - Can you recommend a medically trained pharmacist in veracruz city/boca del rio- that I can go to, or maybe I should take the medicine to her doctor?
Signed - a nervous mom
Thanks! |

Laura - Rick (Windknot) and Ignacio live in your area - you might try PM (private mailing) them.
Keep us posted and best wishes for the quick recovery of your baby. _________________ http://www.vivaveracruz.com/blog/ |

| Thanks everyone - got the medicine all figured out & everyone is one the mend. I think it just surprised me a bit how lax it is regarding meds - compared to US that is. |

laurab, have you discovered yet what to do when the doctor prescribes shots? _________________ I worry that all of my wisdom is derived from bad analogies. |

In Mexico, when in need of shots, you go and buy the medicine at your favorite (discount) pharmacy, then go to your favorite shot (shooting?) person and pay him/her for the application...
OR
You can go to your nearest hospital, where they may have a pharmacy, and take care of all the business there (you might have to bring your own medicine (BYOM?). BTW, you go to a receptionist, or to the emergency entrance and ask where to get the shots done ('inyecciones')....
OR
In the case where you were dealing directly with a Medical practitioner, he/she may want to have you back and charge for another visit and the shot. |

For me, I am fortunate to have a Centro de Salud across the street from where I live. There is a nurse there who gave me shots and charged me five pesos. Of course, I had to go to Chedraui for the medication. _________________ I worry that all of my wisdom is derived from bad analogies. |

Unless it is a shot into a vein, I usually give the shot myself--in the upper-outer buttock is best. It is easy; just hold the syringe needle up, plunge it until a drop comes out (expelling the air) and then jab it in and slowly push the plunger. _________________ frank & ania, las magnolias B&B |

Frank, you're not alone in the "self injection" category.
When I gave myself allergy injections some years back, I simply rested the "outer part" of the upper arm receiving the injection, against a door frame. This exposed the flesh area that I needed to inject, that would have otherwise been difficult to reach w/o aid.
Of course, I had to buy the serum formulated for me, with an Rx provided by my allergist, from the "providing compounding pharmacy."
This worked well, as I saved not only time, but quite a bit of $$$. Fortunately, I'm in a maintenance period, and no longer need the injections. |
